Denver E-Session with Bri and Brian

I love taking photos of great people. I also love pushing photo shoots as far as I can. This engagement shoot managed both. Bri and Brian were both so awesome and photogenic, they made my lives easy and I barely had to direct them at all. We walked around downtown Denver for a while and found some great light (like this natural heart reflected off the building next to us! Awesome!). But what’s even cooler is that they wanted some snowy shots of them in front of the mountains, and to my luck they were totally willing to take a muddy hike with me to get it done. I’m pretty sure all three of us ruined a pair of shoes in the process – totally worth it.

These guys are getting married back east at the end of the summer and I wish them the best of luck with everything! Cheers guys!

Portfolio Update!!

Well, this is something that should have happened about 4 months ago, but I’ve updated my wedding site for 2013 and beyond! This year I decided to really focus on telling the story of the weddings that I shot and as a result I have three “storybook” albums that follow three individual real weddings from 2012. Of course, I couldn’t showcase everything so I have a couple hodge-podge albums as well, but go check them out and tell me what you think!! www.ryandearthweddings.com

Classic Denver Wedding at Grant-Humphrey’s Mansion // Julie + Steve

One of the biggest compliments I get as a wedding photographer is being asked by a fellow photographer to shoot their wedding. Julie is a photographer down in Colorado Springs, and when she asked me to do her wedding I was…excited, to say the least. Her and her husband Steve are not only stunning to look at, but they were dream clients in terms of my photojournalistic style – they poured emotion into everything, right in front of the camera, and it comes through in the images.

When I arrived at Grant-Humphrey’s Mansion it was windy and about to pour. Sure enough, the heavens opened up in not too long and the ceremony was moved inside, Bummer. But true to Colorado form, the clouds let up in under an hour and we had some glistening scenery as a backdrop for the formal photos. Maybe it’s my roots in the Pacific Northwest, but I can’t think of any situation prettier than just after an afternoon shower, and this occasion didn’t disappoint. I had a great time with these two, and I wish them the best moving forward!

Seattle Engagement Session // Ai + Prashant in Belltown

Seattle. I love it.  It’s like a second home for me. Actually, it is literally a second home for me, seeing as that’s where my parents live and I spend so much time there during the holidays. Whenever I get a chance to work up there though, I don’t pass it up. Even with the weather being, well, you’ve heard about the rain up there. Somehow though, I managed to get one of the only sunny days in the history of Northwest Novembers to shoot Ai and Prashant’s engagement photos! Thank the lucky stars!

These two are so great together, and so much fun to shoot photos of – they were total naturals! The three of us took a stroll through Belltown on this particularly gorgeous day and made stops in the Olympic Sculpture ParkPike Place Market and just about everywhere in between, including the gum wall and Kells Irish Pub in Post Alley where they first kissed. After dinner we made a special trip out to the Christmas Ball Tree in Seattle Center for some nighttime silhouettes – Super cool, and so gorgeous. I’m really looking forward to shooting their wedding on STAR WARS DAY! May the Fourth be with you! AWESOME!

Congratulations again guys!! Hit the Jump for more!

Wedding @ The Oxford Hotel // Adam + Tenley

If someone forced me to describe Adam and Tenley in one word, it would have to be “AWESOME.” These two were made for each other. They’re both lawyers, and were relatively new to the area when I met them last year coming from Boston, although admittedly Adam is originally from Colorado. They seemed to have made the transition easily from a high-stress city to the (slightly) more laid-back culture we have here in Denver. Before the wedding they took me out to Jonesy’s Eat Bar in Uptown to have some drinks and eat some unbelievable food. We had an amazing time, and it was then that I knew I could be friends with these guys long-term.

They got married at the Oxford Hotel in LoDo, which is one of the oldest hotels in Denver sitting next to the iconic Union Station. The whole place is super classy and reminds me a lot of the old brownstone in London that I lived in growing up. I spent the afternoon following Tenley around town to Juno Salon to get her makeup and hair did with the ladies, and back downtown for photos. She was ecstatic, to say the least. And when I finally caught up with Adam he may have been even more excited. This may sound cheesy, but it is pretty satisfying to spend one of the most important, and happiest days of two people’s liveswith them and walk away with a physical documentation of the day. I wish Adam and Tenley the best, and hope I get to spend more time with them drinking and eating in the future! Cheers! Go ahead and hit the jump for more.
